Awards
Each year the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund Awards Committee requests nominations for Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service Personnel and Civilians who have exhibited extraordinary bravery, professionalism, dedication, and selfless commitment to duty.
Awards are presented in the following categories:
Medal Of Honor
The Highest Award to be bestowed upon a member of Public Safety who takes direct heroic action above and beyond the call of duty, which results in their death.
Distinguished Service Award
Awarded to a member of Public Safety who demonstrates successful performance above and beyond the call of duty, in which the individual puts their life in extreme danger to preserve the life of another. It is an act that clearly demonstrates immeasurable courage and devotion to duty.
Purple Heart
Presented to a member of Public Safety who dies, or sustains serious injury, as a direct result of actions taken during the performance of their duties.
Merit Award
Awarded to a member of Public Safety for extraordinary performance, at a specific incident, that goes beyond the scope of their duties.
Unit Citation
Presented to a Public Safety Unit that has worked collectively at a specific incident, displaying outstanding teamwork in the performance of duties during a challenging event or under adverse conditions.
Civilian Award
Presented to a civilian who performs a heroic act contributing to a police, fire or emergency medical services incident. The individual would have displayed bravery without regard for their own personal safety to save or protect the life or property of another.
